Naxos of America Welcomes Haenssler Classic to Its Family of Distributed Labels


FRANKLIN, TN and STUTTGART, GERMANY--(Marketwire - March 16, 2010) -  Beginning April 1, 2010, Naxos of America will begin distribution of the prestigious German classical label Haenssler CLASSIC in the United States and Canada.

April releases will feature new recordings by conductors Roger Norrington and Christopher Hogwood; cellist Gerhard Oppitz; and archival recordings by pianist Géza Anda and violinist Ida Haendel. 

With a catalog that boasts nearly 800 CD and DVD titles, Haenssler CLASSIC is one of the most important independent German classical music labels. In addition to offering a variety of superb choral recordings, the label showcases rare repertoire, world premieres, newly discovered masterpieces and up-and-coming young artists. The Haenssler CLASSIC catalog features the exclusive recordings of world-renowned conductor, Helmuth Rilling, including the 172 CD Edition Bachakademie. The label also produces a series of recordings in cooperation with SWR Radio (Southwest German Radio), which features historic performances, world premieres, and internationally-recognized artists such as Carl Schuricht, Roger Norrington, Heinz Holliger, Michael Gielen, the SWR Vocal Ensemble, and many more. Other Haenssler CLASSIC recording artists include Gerhard Oppitz, Thomas Fey, Jenny Lin, Petronel Malan and ECHO-Award winners Johannes Moser, Christian Tetzlaff, and Joachim Held.

Throughout its history, Haenssler CLASSIC has received nearly every major international award, including the German ECHO Award, Grand Prix du Disc, Grammy® Awards and Nominations, the Japanese Record Geijutsu, as well as being named "Label of the Year" in 2000 at the Cannes Classical Awards. The label was also awarded an ECHO Award for "Innovation in Classical Music" for its Digital Bach-Edition for the Apple iPod Classic®.
