The award will be presented to Mr. Ushery at the chapter's 26th Annual Big Apple Awards Gala, to be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Thursday, May 23. The Debrief, created by Mr. Ushery in 2009, is a half-hour broadcast that provides viewers with a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on the news. "David Ushery is an exemplary broadcast journalist who has served the New York metro area for more than 20 years as an anchor and reporter. He has covered some of the largest stories in recent times, including the devastation and aftermath of both the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. and Hurricanes Sandy and Irene, as well as the 'Miracle on the Hudson' emergency landing of US Air flight 1549," said Henry Feintuch, 2013 Big Apple Co-chair and president, Feintuch Communications. "David is an active member of the local community, where he often participates as emcee, moderator and guest speaker in events with schools and non-profits that raise funds for programs and services that benefit the community. He is a solid role model for journalists and public relations practitioners alike, and we're proud to honor him."

"David brings his unique reporting style to NBC 4 New York, and delivers the news in an intelligent, informative and passionate manner," said Michael Jack, president and general manager of NBC 4 New York. "We are proud of David's many accomplishments and of this honor given to him by PRSA-NY. We are so fortunate to have him on our team."

Prior to joining NBC 4, Mr. Ushery spent ten years at WABC-TV, where he rose from general assignment reporter to full-time anchor of the early morning and noon broadcasts and primary fill-in anchor for the evening newscasts. Previously, he was the lead evening reporter for WFSB-TV in Hartford and reported for the Hartford Courant and the Los Angeles Times.

Mr. Ushery is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the 2011 McDonald's Black Media Legends - Faces of Black History Award; the National Association of Black Journalists Award for his series of reports on children and violence. The Network Journal, The Black Professionals and Small Business Magazine named Mr. Ushery one of its "40 Under Forty" for his journalistic accomplishments and the Israeli Consulate in New York City honored him for his series of comprehensive reports covering a visiting political delegation.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Mr. Ushery is married and has a son.
