NBC17's Fourth Annual "Tree of Lights" Celebration at The Streets at Southpoint

Country Star Mark Wills to Perform Live at the Triangle's Biggest and Best Holiday Tradition

RALEIGH, NC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 7, 2005 -- NBC17 and The Streets at Southpoint have partnered once again to bring the Triangle the spectacular 50-foot NBC17 "Tree of Lights" to kick off the holiday season. Last year the event brought 35,000 people to the celebration, and this year NBC17 and The Streets at Southpoint are expecting a larger crowd.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, November 19, near the Southpoint Cinemas at The Streets at Southpoint. Hosted by NBC17 anchors Bill Gaines, Sharon Delaney and Janice Jones, the one-hour "live" television special will include local entertainment from groups such as The Carolina Ballet, North Carolina Boys Choir, Theatre in the Park and the Dance Attic.

Performing his number one hit, "19 Somethin," along with other holiday favorites, will be country music star Mark Wills. Mark won the coveted Favorite Top New Male Vocalist award at the 1999 ACM Awards. Since signing with Mercury Records in 1996, Mark has released four albums.

The show begins at 6:30 pm and the lighting of the tree will commence at approximately 7:50 pm with the help of Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display sponsored by REMAX and Just Fresh. With 3 stages, expanded standing room, as well as better sound, attendees at the event will have no trouble catching a glimpse of all of the exciting entertainment on stage.

"NBC17 is thrilled to continue the Triangle's best holiday tradition -- kicking off the season with the lighting of the NBC17 'Tree of Lights' with our partners at The Streets at Southpoint," said Barry Leffler, president and general manager for NBC17. "We hope all that attend the event, watch it on television or visit the tree throughout the holiday season enjoy its beauty. It is our gift to our viewers."

NBC17 is excited to continue its partnership with The Streets at Southpoint throughout the holiday season by collecting items for Toys for Tots. NBC17 Weather Plus meteorologist Janice Jones and the Weather Plus team will be live Monday through Friday from 5:00-6:30pm at The Streets at Southpoint encouraging viewers and mall visitors to donate to Toys for Tots, a non-profit foundation whose mission is to collect new toys for needy children in the community.

"The Streets at Southpoint is proud to partner with NBC17 to bring this unique holiday event to the Triangle community. We look forward to the NBC17 'Tree of Lights' festivities and entertainment to remain a holiday tradition for families in the Triangle area for years to come," said The Streets at Southpoint's senior marketing manager, Courtney Phillips.
