NBS Technologies Inc. Sues DataCard Corporation for Patent Infringement

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 1, 2005) - NBS Technologies Inc. (TSX:NBS), announced today that its subsidiary, Card Technology Corporation, has filed suit against Datacard Corporation in the United States District Court for Minnesota for the infringement of certain patents owned by NBS relating to its UbiQ software suite. In the complaint, NBS alleges that Datacard's Smart Card Personalization Manager™ infringes these patents, which, among other things, permit smart card processing to approach the rated capacity of commercially available personalization machines.

"The UbiQ software suite allows us to offer improved EMV data preparation, key management and card issuance software solutions, a complete range of 3rd-party partner development tools, and support for issuance on multiple card types, operating systems and personalization hardware platforms. Moreover, the UbiQ software allows our personalization machines to process cards at a much faster rate than we would otherwise achieve. These capabilities position NBS uniquely as the only global provider of productized, robust and scalable end-to-end EMV solutions for a flexible heterogeneous production environment. The patents covering this technology protect our ownership of this important intellectual property, which we will aggressively defend" said David Nyland, President & Chief Executive Officer of NBS.
