NCA Swim Team Hosts "Go for Gold 2016" as Alumni Prepare for Trials

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 05, 2016) - North Coast Aquatics, one of the top swimming clubs in the area, will be hosting the "Go For Gold" event this Saturday to celebrate four alumni swimmers who have qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Trials. The community is invited to come together in celebration of NCA's Olympic Trials qualifiers Kendyl Stewart and Andrew Brady, along with Paralympic Trials qualifiers Roderick Sewell and Jamey Slater.

"It was such a success when we hosted Go for Gold back in 2012 before the London games, we knew we had to do it again this year," says Team Owner and Head Coach, Jeff Pease who is as excited as anyone for the event. "These remarkable athletes have worked so hard to get to this place but definitely cherish the support, and they inspire all the kids to reach for the stars, so I just think it's mutually beneficial for everyone."

Stewart is currently on the USA National Team and will be swimming the 100-meter Butterfly at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE. She is a member of the 2016 graduating class at the University of Southern California with a major in Human Biology. Stewart plans to continue swimming past the summer of 2016, no matter what happens in Omaha.

Brady made the Olympic Trial standard this December in the 400-meter Freestyle competition. Brady currently studies Mechanical Engineering at the University of Florida and is a member of the 2016 SEC Championship swim team. In the future, Brady aspires to join the Navy SEALs.

Sewell is prepping for the Paralympic Trials in Charlotte, NC next month. He debuted his career with the U.S. Para-swimming team at the 2014 Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships where he won both gold and bronze medals. Originally from Florence, AL, Sewell enjoys residing in San Diego and teaching an outreach swim program at his local YMCA.

Slater, who also qualified for the Paralympic Trials, is a graduate of Elon University and received the University's 2012 "Top 10 Under 10" award for his 11.5 years of service in the United States Navy. During his military service, he was deployed 4 times to both Iraq and Afghanistan as both a Hospital Corpsman and Marine Corps Scout Sniper.

The fun filled afternoon in Carlsbad will feature photos with the athletes, an inflatable obstacle course, tie-dye and carnival games. Attendees can expect a taco bar with dessert, and the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of their favorite coach!

All proceeds from the event will help support the athletes and coaches in their pursuit of achieving the highest level in swimming by representing the U.S. at the games this summer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

NCA's "Go for Gold" will take place from 11am to 1:30pm this Saturday, May 7th at the Alga Norte Community Park.
