NCPDP Announces Free Webinar to Support Awareness, Labeling Best Practices and Safe Use of Acetaminophen

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - Feb 23, 2012) - The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) announced today a free patient safety webinar on best practices for the safe use of Acetaminophen, which will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. EST. The webinar will explore the public health issue, increase awareness about the safe use of the medicine and provide an update on stakeholder actions since the release of the white paper, "NCPDP Recommendations for Improved Prescription Container Labels for Medicines Containing Acetaminophen." The webinar is intended for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy application vendors, and medication knowledgebase and compendia vendors, as well as public health, risk managers, and patient safety advocates.

In addition to covering the benefits of Acetaminophen, Gerald K. McEvoy, Pharm. D., assistant vice president of drug information of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and member of the task group that produced the NCPDP white paper, will review NCPDP's recommendations for improving prescription container labels and provide an update on industry response and actions since the white paper was released in 2011.

"There has been progress over the past several months as pharmacy industry stakeholders have stepped up to address the issue and we are continuing to facilitate movement," explained Lee Ann Stember, President of NCPDP. "This is an opportunity for the pharmacy industry to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to patient safety, and is evidence of the collaborative effort and successes our industry has achieved in transforming healthcare over the past 35 years."
