NCSBN Center for Regulatory Excellence Grant Program Announces Request for Proposals

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Apr 12, 2012) - The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) announces a deadline of June 15, 2012, for submission of scientific proposals to its Center for Regulatory Excellence (CRE) Grant Program.

The CRE Grant Program funds national and international research projects that may have measurable impact on nursing regulation, advances the science of nursing regulation and builds regulatory expertise worldwide. Research priorities include:

  • Patient safety;
  • Practice (LPN/VN, RN and APRN);
  • Nursing education;
  • Continued competence;
  • Discipline and alternatives to discipline;
  • National and international regulatory issues; and/or
  • Portability.

"The CRE Grant Program has provided our research team with critical, significant, external funding to measure the relationships between nursing regulation, RN and LPN/VN scope of practice, and quality of care in nursing homes," said Kirsten Corazzini, PhD, associate professor, Duke University School of Nursing. Corazzini is one of several researchers who received funding from the CRE in 2008 and again in 2010. "As a result of the funding that we have received, we have developed partnerships with the boards of nursing of the states within which our universities reside, closing the gap between research and regulatory domains, and illustrating the unique and vital linkages that the CRE's grant program cultivates and supports."

The CRE Excellence Grant Program awards grants up to $300,000. Since it began in 2007, the CRE Grant Program has awarded more than $8 million in grants.

"The CRE is unique in its mission to improve the scientific basis of nursing regulation, providing the only significant source of external research funding for nurse scientists to link regulation to practice and care outcomes," Corazzini said.
