CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - August 14, 2008) - The National Council of State Boards of
Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN®),
www.ncsbn.org, elected new members to its Board
of Directors during its 2008 Delegate Assembly. Members representing the
boards of nursing elected officers and directors-at-large for one- and
two-year terms to the board. Those elected include:
President
Laura Rhodes, MSN, RN, executive director, West Virginia Board of Examiners
for Registered Professional Nurses, was previously the vice president of
the NCSBN Board of Directors, chair of the NCSBN Bylaws Committee from
2000-2006 and served on the NCSBN Governance and Leadership Advisory
Council, 2005-2006, and the NCSBN Governance and Leadership Task Force,
2004-2005. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the American Red Cross.
Vice President
Lepaine McHenry, MS, BSN, RN, board president, Arkansas State Board of
Nursing, was previously the chair of the NCSBN Transition to Practice
Committee and served on the NCSBN Practice, Regulation, and Education
Committee, 2005-2007. She was appointed by the Arkansas Governor to serve
on the Minority Health Commission and Long Term Care Advisory Board. She is
the founder of the Arkansas Directors of Nursing Administration in LTC
Organization. McHenry has served on the board of the National Association
of Directors of Nursing Administration in several roles.
Treasurer
Ruth Ann Terry, MPH, RN, executive officer, California Board of Registered
Nursing, was reelected to a second two-year term as treasurer. Terry has
served on various NCSBN committees including Bylaws, Resolutions, Nursing
Education Survey and Finance.
Director-at-Large (two-year term)
Randall Hudspeth, MS, APRN-CNS/NP, FRE, board member, Idaho Board of
Nursing, has served on the NCSBN APRN Committee since 2004. He is an
inducted Fellow of the NCSBN Institute of Regulatory Excellence. He served
two terms as board chairman and two terms as vice chairman of the Idaho
Board of Nursing.
Katherine Thomas, MS, RN, executive director, Texas Board of Nursing, has
served as the NCSBN Representative to the APRN Joint Dialogue Group since
2007. She was previously the chair of NCSBN Nursing Practice and Education
Committee from 1999-2001 and served on the NCSBN Advanced Practice
Registered Nurse Advisory Committee from 1995-2007.
Director-at-Large (one year term)
Catherine Giessel, MS, ANP, FAANP, board chair, Alaska Board of Nursing,
has served on the NCSBN Disciplinary Resources Committee since 2006. She
has served on the Anchorage Health and Human Services Commission since
2002. She is the chair of the Physical Activity Committee of the Mayor's
Task Force on Obesity and Health. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the
Alaska Nurse Practitioner Association and the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners.
Greg Howard, LPN, board member, Alabama Board of Nursing, has previously
served as director-at-large on the NCSBN Board of Directors from 1996
to1998. Howard has also served as the vice president of the Alabama Board.
Additionally, he has held many board offices on both the National
Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc. and Alabama Federation of
Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc.
