NDP Holds National Campaign School

Breakthrough 2007, March 16-17 at the Marriott Hotel, Ottawa

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 14, 2007) - New Democrats are converging in Ottawa this weekend for "Breakthrough 2007", the Party's biggest campaign readiness conference ever.

"This weekend we bring our candidates and activists together right from St. John's to Victoria and giving them training, tools and inside information they need to hit the ground running," said Eric Hebert-Daly, NDP Federal Secretary.

"It doesn't matter when we are going to have an election - the better prepared our candidates are, the better shot they have at winning."

In addition to election-readiness, specialized training is being presented to candidates, campaign managers and tour and events organizers. Highlights of the weekend include: hands on media workshops, policy briefings, a fundraiser social for the Agnes Macphail fund, which helps raise money for female candidates, and several keynote presentations.

NDP Leader Jack Layton will deliver a major speech at the conference on Sunday afternoon.

"We've had an overwhelming response - this conference is even bigger than the last one we held in 2005. More than 300 New Democrats coming from across the country to get election-ready - over 100 of those are candidates," said Hebert-Daly.
