The Neat™ Company Honored as an Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award Recipient

Partnership With Smart Design Expands Product Line Making It Even Easier to Turn Paper Into Useful Digital Information

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - November 11, 2008) -

News Facts:

The Neat Company, a Philadelphia-based company committed to developing user-friendly scanning solutions, has been selected as an Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Award honoree by the Consumer Electronics Association for its new ADF scanner and software product, NeatDesk. Working with the award-winning consultancy Smart Design, The Neat Company focused on developing the new scanner as part of a product line that delivers on the needs of its users: a system that is efficient, organized and simple to use.

The Company recently unveiled NeatDesk, along with an all new version of its mobile scanner, NeatReceipts. Both scanners work in concert with NeatWorks 4.0 software, which digitizes and manages paper-based information. The integrated hardware-software system helps businesses and individuals turn any kind of paper into digital information that can be stored, organized, edited or exported to a variety of popular formats. The scanner and software reflect The Neat Company's vision of reducing paper consumption by transforming paper into digital information and empowering people to manage their information without having to keep the physical documents.

The complete hardware-software system turns a complex task into an easy-to-use total solution. NeatDesk's hardware design was created to focus on fast scanning, high image quality and reliability across paper of different widths, qualities and textures. The patented paper tray design gives users the option of scanning multiple business cards, documents and receipts all at once. Users can load the scanner with a stack of papers, press scan, and in seconds, the papers are digitized and then imported into the software's digital inbox. From there, users can file this information in customizable folders, search for any item by keyword, and run reports to manage business expenses and prepare for taxes.

The Neat Company was granted design patents on both scanners in October 2008. Design patents may be granted to companies or individuals who invent a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. They protect the aesthetic properties of the product. The United States Patent & Trademark Office issued the patents on the basis that the aesthetics of the Neat scanner designs are novel and non-obvious in the scanner market.

The esteemed Innovations Design and Engineering Award selects winners based on:

-- Engineering qualities, technical specs and materials used

-- Aesthetic and design qualities

-- The product's intended use/function and user value

Further validating the superior design, NeatDesk and NeatReceipts were both honored for superior hardware at the 2008 International Spark Design Awards, winning the coveted Spark! Award in October 2008. The Spark Awards is an international design competition recognizing new processes and technology from designers and companies large and small. More than 360 entrees were considered for the 2008 Awards with only 17 awarded the coveted Spark! Award. Additionally, NeatReceipts' sleek new look landed it a spot alongside other Smart Design clients in Fast Company's annual Masters of Design issue.

"NeatReceipts and NeatDesk are our first original hardware designs, and while we love their sleek, modern look, when it comes to Neat products, function is as important as form. Smart Design understood this challenge and NeatDesk is a perfect example. The paper tray is built for speed and jam-free scanning, yet designed intuitively for the way we all sort and organize our paper."

-- COO and Co-Founder Rafi Spero, The Neat Company

"Truly great technology products, like NeatDesk and NeatReceipts, blend software and hardware together into a cohesive experience for people. I think our team achieved this level of integration and it's satisfying to see the designs finding success on the market."

-- Tom Dair, President, Smart Design
