NECA/IBEW Team Strings Nik Wallenda's Grand Canyon Tightrope Walk, a Feature of "Industry Today" on Industrialinfo.com

SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwired - Jul 10, 2013) -  Researched by Industrial Info Resources -- On June 23, Nik Wallenda made history once again as he became the first person to walk a tightrope across the Grand Canyon. Nik used a two-inch rope, without the use of a safety net or tether.

While millions of people across the world viewed the live event, what they didn't see was what went on behind the scenes as NECA contractor O'Connell Electric and its IBEW workforce strung the tightrope across the 1,400-foot-wide chasm known as Hell Hole Bend.

Last summer, the team placed the cable for Nik's historic walk across Niagara Falls, but it was faced with an entirely different set of conditions and challenges this time. You've seen the walk -- now, in this Electric TV excusive, watch as the NECA-IBEW team lays the groundwork for this amazing feat.

The National Electrical Contractors Association, or NECA, has provided more than a century of service to the $130 billion electrical construction industry that brings power, light, and communication technology to buildings and communities across the United States. NECA's national and 119 local chapters advance the industry through advocacy, education, research, and standards development.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, or IBEW, represents approximately 725,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government. The IBEW has members in both the United States and Canada and stands out among the American unions in the AFL-CIO because it is among the largest and has members in so many skilled occupations.
