NECA-IBEW Team's Zero Net Energy Training Center Showcases Latest Technologies, a Feature of "Industry Today" on

SAN LEANDRO, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 9, 2013) - Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- When it comes to the latest in innovative energy technologies, the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) are at the top of their game.

So when IBEW Local 595 was looking to expand its Alameda Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in San Leandro to another location, the NECA-IBEW team decided to transform the new building into a model of energy efficiency. The result was the Zero Net Energy Training Center.

In addition to the solar photovoltaic panels and wind turbines that provide power to the facility, a tremendous amount of design and architectural work went into making the building itself extremely efficient, using natural light, heat and ventilation to control temperatures and maintain a pleasant atmosphere in which to work and learn.

In this edition of "Industry Today," see how the NECA-IBEW team helped implement these technologies so that the Zero Net Energy Training Center uses about 75% less energy than other buildings of similar size and type, earning a LEED Silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council.

ABOUT NECA: The National Electrical Contractors Association, or NECA, has provided more than a century of service to the $130 billion electrical construction industry that brings power, light, and communication technology to buildings and communities across the United States.
