Negative Personal Attacks? Dalton McGuinty Wrote the Book

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 19, 2007) - Dalton McGuinty mastered the art of negative campaigning quite some time ago.

During last year's by-election in Parkdale-High Park, the McGuinty Liberals launched a series of personal attacks on then-candidate Cheri DiNovo digging into her past as a street youth in a desperate attempt to stop an NDP win. The Toronto Star called it a "smear campaign" and the Globe and Mail described it as "one of the province's ugliest" electoral battles in recent memory.

Last Spring, Dalton McGuinty launched a deliberate campaign to label NDP Leader Howard Hampton and others as racists for raising questions about the Liberals' year-end slush fund. The Globe and Mail quoted Liberal insiders saying "the gloves are off".

Then this summer, McGuinty refused to apologize after top campaign adviser Warren Kinsella made a sexist suggestion about a female MPP "baking cookies."

Dalton McGuinty's afraid to campaign on his record. Ontario's NDP will remind working families that Dalton McGuinty has consistently let them down.
