NetApp Presents Benefits and Best Practices on iSCSI and FCoE in March


SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - March 1, 2010) - NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) will participate in three industry events this month: a Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) Webcast titled "Optimize Your Storage Environment with iSCSI Storage Area Networks (SANs)," and a session on Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) at FOSE 2010.

SNIA Webcast on iSCSI SAN
Jason Blosil, Product Marketing manager at NetApp and co-chair of SNIA's Ethernet Storage Forum iSCSI subcommittee, along with Dell, will co-present a SNIA Webcast titled "Optimize Your Storage Environment with iSCSI SANs." This is the second in a series of Webcasts that Blosil is leading to discuss the benefits of implementing SANs based on iSCSI. This session will address the advantages of deploying iSCSI SANs in the context of current data center trends such as server virtualization, storage efficiency, and scalable architectures. FOSE 2010
Mike McNamara, Product Marketing senior manager at NetApp and Marketing chair of the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA), will co-present a session with Brocade on "Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) in the Data Center" at FOSE 2010. The presenters will discuss how FCoE combined with enhancements to Ethernet helps simplify network infrastructure and saves both capital and operational expenses. In addition, they will share deployment scenarios, best practices, and customer case studies. The presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 23, at 12:40 p.m. ET in the Data Center and Virtualization Pavilion Theater. FCIA will be at booth 1524. Silicon Valley Leadership Group's Sustainability Symposium
The Silicon Valley Leadership Group will hold its Environmental Sustainability Symposium, hosted by eBay, on Thursday, March 25, in San Jose. As an active member of the Leadership Group, NetApp will have two representatives taking part in the day's agenda. Alan Yoder, member of NetApp's Technical Staff in the Office of the CTO, will be a panelist in a plenary session titled "Collaboration Shaping Sustainability." This discussion, focused on the innovation that comes out of collaborative efforts among industry groups, includes representatives from Climate Savers Computing Initiative, The Green Grid, Nike's Green Xchange, and NetApp's Yoder, representing SNIA. Yoder is also the co-chair of SNIA's Green Storage Initiative Technical Working Group. In addition, Peter Perrault, NetApp Environmental Sustainability Program manager, will moderate a panel titled "Operational Innovation: Greening Your Operations." This session will focus on innovative strategies to improve efficiency and environmental sustainability in corporate site operations, touching on subjects such as alternative energy, commute programs, recycling, and energy efficiency. The panel will include representatives from Accenture, Adobe, and Jones Lange LaSalle.

Val Bercovici, senior director, office of the CTO at NetApp, was recently elected chair of the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative Governing Board. Kingman Tang, senior manager, Cloud Solutions Marketing, was also elected as the body's Marketing chair. The Cloud Storage Initiative is responsible for coordinating and driving all SNIA activities related to cloud storage, including those for education, technical development, business development, marketing, and implementation.

Charles Lavacchia, director of SAN Business Development at NetApp, was recently elected president of the Ethernet Alliance.
