NetApp's Media and Entertainment Solution Enables Extreme Performance and Scalability for Managing High-Definition Video Content

The Media Content Management Solution (MCM) Is Part of a Growing Big Bandwidth Portfolio From NetApp Designed to Address Large Workflow Consolidation Needs

HOLLYWOOD, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 26, 2011) - NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced a new solution for bandwidth-intensive environments that offers leaders in the media and entertainment industries high performance and always-available data access to maximize their collaborative efforts and improve workflow processes. The NetApp® Media Content Management (MCM) solution provides the infrastructure needed for video professionals and content developers to ingest, produce, process, archive, and deliver data with the flexibility to scale performance and capacity.

The MCM solution from NetApp is designed to provide a central active repository for media production and distribution workflows. The high bandwidth and capacity density of the solution allows facilities to improve their media workflows to better monetize their content. When tested with partner ATTO Technology's Celerity Fibre Channel HBAs, including single-, dual-, and quad-channel configurations, the solution provided customers with reliable, high-performance Fibre Channel connectivity.

Currently, NetApp is uniquely positioned to support high-performance environments for data-intensive workloads in which boundless, secure, and scalable data storage is required. The new MCM solution from NetApp will help video and entertainment professionals by eliminating the current barriers from workflow inefficiencies, allowing faster results.

Testing Demonstrates Reliable, High-Performance Fibre Channel Connectivity
In recent testing by ATTO Technology using the company's Celerity Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) with Multipath Director® technology, the NetApp MCM solution outperformed all previously tested storage subsystems. New benchmarks were set across several media industry test regimens, including the number of uncompressed HD video streams simultaneously supported for Final Cut Pro® editors. With four Macintosh® clients running Final Cut Pro 7, the NetApp MCM solution played back 22 uncompressed HD (1920 x 1080, 10-bit YUV) video streams overnight without dropping any frames.

In testing the combination of the NetApp MCM solution and the ATTO HBAs, high-bit-rate uncompressed editing workgroups could be fully integrated into general facility workflows. This connectivity solution is certified by NetApp and featured in the online NetApp Interoperability Matrix.

"The MCM solution is optimized for workflow performance and scalability; it will allow Media and Entertainment companies to architect more integrated media workflows," said Chris Cummings, vice president of marketing at NetApp.

"ATTO is pleased to partner with NetApp," said Wayne Arvidson, vice president of Marketing at ATTO Technology, Inc. "The Media Content Management solution offers a new connectivity solution that works across multiple operating systems for truly collaborative digital media environments. We are excited to provide end users the choice of NetApp for their high-performance storage needs."
