NetBase Brings Social Media Smarts to University Classrooms

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 30, 2011) - NetBase, the Social Media Insight & Analysis Company, today announced the Higher Education Program which provides students with the tools to understand social media and other online conversations and its impact on brands. Leveraging NetBase's Insight Workbench, students will get to think like market researchers and have hands-on experience analyzing social media conversations. Students will develop a highly valuable social media skill set that can be applied in the real-world.

Since the fall of 2010, NetBase's Higher Education program has demonstrated success in classrooms all over the country, from University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business to University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Other partnerships include NYU Stern School of Business, Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management and Medill, Northwestern University.

"In my January MBA course on Social Media for Brand Managers, I found that only 15% of my students considered themselves savvy about social media," said Professor Joel Rubinson of NYU/Stern School of Business. "Being able to offer the NetBase tool to increase their exposure to social media data and add to their skill set greatly enriched the classroom experience."

"Social media is a huge part of our everyday lives, from blogs and user forums to Twitter and Facebook," said Michael Trusov, professor at the University of Maryland. "Learning how social media impacts brands and individuals is critical, and NetBase's Higher Education program is an invaluable experience for all of my students."

"We are committed to education through this program to universities around the United States," said Lisa Joy Rosner, chief marketing officer of NetBase. "Extending this to my alma mater University of Maryland is particularly exciting; I received an outstanding education there and now I have chance to give back. Now all the students who are craving social as part of their education, a must have for this generation, will have a hands-on experience."
