Neterion and IBM System x Demonstrate Industry's First 10 GbE Adapter to Run the World's Fastest Virtualized Server

First 10 Gigabit Ethernet Running at Near Line-Rate on IBM System x and VMware's ESX Operating System Demonstrated at VMworld 2007 Event

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 10, 2007) - VMworld, Booth #1228 -- Neterion, Inc., the industry leader in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) adapters for server and storage environments, announced that it will be demonstrating the industry's first 10 GbE near line-rate performance on IBM System x servers at VMworld 2007 September 11 - 13 at Moscone Center in San Francisco.

This will be the industry's first demonstration of near line-rate 10 GbE performance on the VMware ESX server platform. IBM's 10 GbE adapter is powered by Neterion's Xframe V-NIC™ technology, designed for virtualization at the silicon core, which enables unprecedented virtualization performance. The IBM Xframe 10 GbE driver ships in the box with ESX server edition and leverages ESX enhanced networking support.

The result is near 10 GbE line-rate performance for transmit and receive functions with CPU utilization comparable with 'native' operating systems, thus enabling the virtualization of I/O intensive applications without hitting I/O performance limitations.

"IBM System x servers are the optimal choice for server consolidation activities helping customers address space, power and cooling limitations in their data centers," said Jay Bretzmann, manager of product marketing, IBM System x. "Combined with Neterion's 10 GbE adapter, end-users will now be able to remove I/O bottlenecks within their virtualized servers, allowing greater consolidation ratios and opening the door to new data-intensive applications."

IBM and Neterion will demonstrate the world's fastest virtualized server at VMworld at Neterion's booth #1228. The demo features IBM's 10 GbE adapters, powered by Neterion's Xframe, and IBM System x3850 servers. IBM's mainframe inspired technology, X-Architecture, is built into the IBM System x3850, which also features a unique optimized I/O chipset that provides a virtualization-ready environment with Neterion's V-NIC adapters.

"IBM's System x3850 server and Neterion's 10 GbE adapter are an ideal combination for a truly virtualized 10 GbE solution," stated Dave Zabrowski, president and CEO of Neterion. "I/O intensive applications have traditionally been excluded from virtualization projects, but with the combination of Neterion 10 GbE, VMware ESX and IBM multi-core servers, these applications can now be virtualized. This opens up an entire new pool of cost savings and resource utilization improvements to all IT managers around the world."

IBM's Xframe 10 GbE adapter has been available and shipping on IBM System x servers since October 2005, and for System p and System i servers since May 2006.
