Neterion and String Bean Software Team to Establish New Level of Performance for iSCSI SANs on Windows

CUPERTINO, Calif. and MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md.--(CCNMatthews - Oct 24, 2005) -

10 Gigabit Ethernet Throughput Delivers New Options for iSCSI Storage Area Networking Applications

Neterion Inc., the industry leader in the 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter market and String Bean Software, Inc., a leading developer of software-based iSCSI Storage Area Networking (SAN) solutions for the Microsoft Windows platform, today announced that the Neterion Xframe® II 10 GbE adapter using PCI-X 2.0 bus architecture with Double Date Rate technology and String Bean's WinTarget™ 2.0 software achieved breakthrough performance for a 10 Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI-based Storage Area Network.

The performance testing was conducted at Neterion's facility with the assistance of String Bean Software demonstrating iSCSI storage throughput of 8.9 Gb/s using the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator v2.0, WinTarget v2.0 and the Windows Server 2003 operating system.

"This level of performance is a clear indicator that 10 Gigabit Ethernet has the speed, scalability and low latency requirements to meet the demand for iSCSI-based Storage Area Networks," noted Dave Zabrowski, president & CEO of Neterion. "IT management now has the ability to effectively create IP-based SANs for the enterprise in the widely adopted and proven MS environment."

A key requirement of the testing was to demonstrate 100% compatibility and interoperability with Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator in order to meet the storage needs of small to medium businesses. In addition, the new levels of performance provide the low latency and scalability to support enterprise-class applications.

"These results clearly demonstrate that iSCSI SAN solutions based on WinTarget will scale to meet the more demanding needs of enterprise customers without sacrificing the ease-of-use and cost-effectiveness of WinTarget valued by small and medium businesses," said Mickey McIntire, CEO of String Bean Software.

"The combination of 10 GbE speeds from Neterion and the scalability of WinTarget software on the Windows platform will provide a wider choice of high performance SAN solutions for companies seeking cost-effective and flexible storage solutions that leverage IP technologies," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, Group Product Manager, Storage Technologies, Microsoft Corporation.

Details regarding the testing performed and detailed performance results are available in a white paper titled Breakthrough Windows iSCSI Performance Using Neterion Xframe 10 GbE and String Bean Software WinTarget available from each company's respective web site: and
