NetMotion Wireless and Sierra Wireless Boost Dispatch Response Time for City of Aurora's Public Safety Workers

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA and SEATTLE, WASHINGTON--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 26, 2005) -

To exhibit at the International Association of Chief of Police Conference in Miami, FL, September 26-28, 2005

NetMotion Wireless and Sierra Wireless (TSX:SW)(NASDAQ:SWIR) have joined forces to provide mobile workers in the city of Aurora, the third largest city in Colorado, with secure, persistent connectivity using two distinct networks - a cellular-based EDGE/GPRS system and Wi-Fi (802.11). The city has selected NetMotion Wireless and Sierra Wireless to provide its police officers and fire fighters with real-time access to mission critical information through a wireless data network. The two companies will be exhibiting at the IACP conference in Sierra Wireless' booth #1268, in Miami, FL on September 26-28, 2005. Representatives from both companies will be available to discuss the city of Aurora's wireless implementation.

With nearly 300,000 residents today, Aurora's population is expected to reach 500,000 in the next 30 years. The city has 300 fire fighters and 600 police officers and a wireless communications system in place in more than 300 vehicles across both departments. In order to maximize the efficiency of the wireless communications system, the city needed a secure Internet-based solution that would enable seamless connectivity between the different networks throughout the city.

The city of Aurora selected NetMotion Wireless and Sierra Wireless to implement a solution that would allow its mobile workers to access dispatch information and records databases from wherever their vehicles are in the field. NetMotion Wireless combined its Mobility XE™ mobile VPN solution with Sierra Wireless' AirCard® 775 wireless wide area network cards and MP 775 rugged wireless modems, allowing the city of Aurora's mobile workers to access data quickly, securely and efficiently.

"Having a durable, reliable wireless data connection has become critical to our officers, who need access to information in order to effectively assess situations and make real-time decisions in the field," said Michael Bedwell, public safety systems manager, city of Aurora. "Our former system took an average 4.7 minutes to respond to a vehicle query. Our new system takes less than 12 seconds. The positive experience with NetMotion Wireless and Sierra Wireless makes us confident in our wireless network as the city continues to grow."

NetMotion Wireless' Mobility XE is an easily deployed, mobile VPN created specifically to address the challenges of mobile computing. Through its robust server software and support for a wide range of client platforms, Mobility XE enables mobile workers to get and stay connected to mission-critical applications over any IP-based networks they use or traverse. Mobility's policy management module also provides the ability to control access to sensitive information based on the user, device or network being used.

Sierra Wireless' AirCard 775 and MP 775 products provide worldwide roaming on EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks to access data wirelessly at data rates averaging 100 to 130 kilobits per second (kbps) with peak rates up to 216 kbps. The AirCard 775 is a wireless wide area network card that fits into a PCMCIA slot in a laptop computer, while the MP 775 is a rugged, vehicle-mounted wireless modem. Sierra Wireless MP products are designed for use in the public safety, field service, and transportation industries and include an integrated GPS module for vehicle tracking.

"Sierra Wireless products have been specifically designed to meet the needs of organizations like the city of Aurora, providing a dependable communications link under demanding conditions," said Dan Schieler, senior vice president of worldwide sales for Sierra Wireless. "We are proud to team with NetMotion Wireless to help officers in the city of Aurora stay connected and improve safety and efficiency."

"NetMotion has successfully addressed the concerns of numerous public safety organizations," said Andrew Willet, senior vice president, sales and business development for NetMotion Wireless. "By combining the flexibility and reliability of Mobility XE with the power and range of Sierra Wireless' AirCard 775 and MP 775, the city of Aurora is able to preserve the security, speed and performance requirements of its mobile workers while managing its continued growth. This will be especially crucial as the city continues its rapid growth."
