Netsmart Helps Prepare Health and Human Services Providers for Accreditation in Complex Healthcare Ecosystem

Equipping Providers With Knowledge and Solutions to Meet Rigorous, Changing Accreditation Requirements and Value-Based Payment Models

OVERLAND PARK, KS--(Marketwired - June 23, 2016) - Netsmart is further expanding its knowledge and solution alignment as part of an ongoing commitment to help its clients meet CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and The Joint Commission accreditation standards.

Netsmart clients will be better prepared to face the rigors of becoming accredited thanks to the more than 35 Netsmart associates -- clinical and medical officers, product managers, solutions consultants and client support team members -- who underwent multi-day training with a CARF managing director. Likewise, more than 40 Netsmart associates underwent training with a retired expert from The Joint Commission in the past year so they can assist facilities seeking to become accredited.

"As a collaborative partner, we're investing today in tomorrow's needs to help equip our clients for the ever-changing healthcare landscape," said Netsmart CEO Mike Valentine. "Behavioral health and other HHS providers may have succeeded before without accreditation, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to do so. We want our clients to be ready, and are preparing them with the knowledge and solutions to adapt to rapid convergence and disruption in healthcare."

For example, Netsmart is aligning its solutions with the functionality required for providers engaging in new value-based payment models, including Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs). Accreditation by CARF and/or The Joint Commission demonstrates provider commitment to safe, high-quality health care -- it's also required to become a CCBHC.

More than 1,600 different accreditation criteria were analyzed and mapped to Netsmart's solutions. Key accreditation areas built into Netsmart CareRecords™ (EHRs) include:

  • Integrated behavioral health/primary care capabilities
  • Assessments for screening and access to services
  • Individual comprehensive service plans
  • Medication management -- in a closed universal loop
  • Clinical reconciliation
  • Transitions of care
  • Concurrent documentation

"Accreditation signals to our clients that we put the utmost value on their safety and care," said Carmen Cantero, quality improvement officer of Citrus Health Network, Inc., a Netsmart provider client and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) accredited by The Joint Commission. "Netsmart's integration of accreditation requirements into their solutions allows us to optimize the quality of care provided, achieve operational efficiencies, and be prepared at all times for on-site accreditation visits."

About CARF
CARF International, a group of companies that includes CARF Canada and CARF Europe, is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.

Through accreditation, CARF assists service providers in improving the quality of their services, demonstrating value, and meeting internationally recognized organizational and program standards. The accreditation process applies sets of standards to service areas and business practices during an on-site survey. Accreditation, however, is an ongoing process, signaling to the public that a service provider is committed to continuously improving services, encouraging feedback, and serving the community. Accreditation also demonstrates a provider's commitment to enhance its performance, manage its risk, and distinguish its service delivery.
