YORK, ME -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 14, 2005 -- Online cookies continue to be a topic of heated debate. Sometimes lost in the sound and fury surrounding this discussion are the basic facts of what cookies are and how they work. Today, the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) and the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) announced that they will co-host a Web-based seminar entitled "Cookies: a Technical Review for Non-Techies," on November 17 at 12:00 p.m. ET/ 9:00 a.m. PT.

The Webinar is intended to clear up confusion associated with cookies and educate attendees about this unique and powerful technology. The Webinar will provide a definitive statement on what cookies are, what they can and cannot do and what risks they may present to consumers.

    Scheduled presenters include:
-- Trevor Hughes, Executive Director, Network Advertising Initiative
    (NAI)
-- Brooks Dobbs, Senior Director of Privacy Technology, DoubleClick
-- Ari Schwartz, Associate Director, Center for Democracy and Technology
    (CDT)

"We hope that the information provided in the Webinar will serve as the groundwork for future discussions of policy and standards concerning cookies," said Trevor Hughes, executive director of NAI. "By presenting this review in a 'non-techie' manner, we hope to establish a common understanding of cookies and their positive and negative effects on consumers. It is our goal to set a foundation for discussion that can include all parties involved in the issue."

This free seminar is open to interested parties and the media. For more information or to register, please contact Kathleen Bagley Formidoni of blast! PR for NAI at kathleen@blastpr.com or 919-833-9975 x11.
