Network Equipment Technologies Supports Black & Veatch's Goal to Modernize Communications

Integration With Black & Veatch's Existing System Results in Improved Efficiency Globally

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - May 11, 2011) - Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NASDAQ: NWK) today announced that Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, is deploying NET's VX Series as the organization's strategic VoIP solution to advance the goals of its "Reinvent IT" initiative. The goals of the initiative are to modernize and globalize communication; to mobilize its work force with anywhere, anytime communication; and to gain cost efficiencies while enhancing productivity and mobility for its professionals.

Working with HP and Microsoft, NET implemented Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (now "Microsoft Lync," following the 2010 release) for Black & Veatch, to provide presence, instant messaging, desktop sharing, conferencing, and internal voice capabilities to help professionals collaborate better and increase productivity.

HP and NET helped Black & Veatch deploy the enterprise voice capabilities for approximately 2,700 professionals at the global headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas. This year, Black & Veatch expects to deploy enterprise voice to an additional 2,100 professionals housed out of 20 of its regional offices. To reduce costs, Black & Veatch also began a campaign to eliminate traditional desk phones for professionals across the Greater Kansas City area and its headquarters. It distributed 3,000 Plantronics Blackwire C220-M headsets, which are optimized for use with Lync Server 2010, and worked with HP to train Black & Veatch professionals on how to use them.

"NET enabled us to make communications transparent, so people can work from anywhere," said Jeff Phillips, Black & Veatch IT Director and UC sponsor. "Further, since the solution is platform independent, people can easily configure the system to ring their PCs or their mobile phones to stay connected."

"Microsoft, HP and NET played a critical role in implementing unified communications for us," added Brad Vaughan, Chief Information Officer at Black & Veatch. "Through their integrated approach to planning and deployment, the whole project was a success in terms of user adoption, cost, and schedule."

"NET is proud to work with HP to support Black & Veatch's enterprise voice deployment at its regional offices and construction sites. We expect this new network solution will reduce voice costs even further by retiring more PBX systems and eliminating additional third-party voice-mail and conferencing systems," said Matthew Krueger, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, NET.
