Network Equipment Technologies' VX Series Added to DISA Approved Products List

Certification Expands Opportunity Within NET Federal's Extensive Department of Defense Customer Base

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - January 14, 2011) - Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NASDAQ: NWK) announced today that a new release of its VX Series (VX900, VX1200 and VX1800), running software release 4.7.4, has been added to the DISA Approved Products List (APL). This updated certification adds native support for Multilevel Precedence and Preemption (MLPP) to the VX product line, greatly improving its efficiency in DISA's core satellite facilities. Users are no longer required to use Leased Line Emulation Mode (LLEM), freeing many Primary Rate Interfaces (PRI) at constrained downlink facilities.

In addition to MLPP, this release of VX software supports standards-based V.150.1 secure call relay over an IP infrastructure. The VX Series retains its proprietary, error-tolerant method of secure call relay, dubbed 'SCIP framing' and supports both T-1 and E-1 interfaces, using both Channel Associated Signaling (CAS) and PRI signaling. The APL certification is for T-1 ISDN only.

"We are very pleased to have received APL certification," remarked John Winters, VP of NET Federal Sales. "The flexibility of the VX Series in providing bandwidth-efficient, highly reliable, secure-call capabilities over IP networks is unique in the industry and it provides our customers within the Department of Defense a cost effective method of deploying voice capabilities in a number of different types of environments. The addition of MLPP and support for V.150 to our certification will expand the possible uses of the VX Series for our extensive government customer base. Over 2,000 VX Series nodes are already in use throughout the DoD, including the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, as well as joint-service activities."

The VX900 platform is in a rack-mountable chassis that can be configured with one to eight T1 PRI interfaces, and up to two IP transport interfaces. This chassis has two expansion slots that can be populated with many card types, though only the T1/E1 expansion boards configured for T1 ISDN PRI are certified by JITC, .This chassis also has a 1/2 slot that can be used for serial or security acceleration cards.

The VX1200 platform is in a rack-mountable chassis that can be configured with one to eight T1 PRI interfaces, and up to six IP transport interfaces. This chassis has two expansion slots that can be populated with many card types, though only the T1/E1 expansion boards configured for T1 ISDN PRI are certified by JITC.

The VX1800 platform is in a rack-mountable chassis that can be configured with one to 24 T1 PRI interfaces and up to two IP interfaces. This chassis has six expansion slots that can be populated with many card types, though again only the T1/E1 expansion boards configured for T1 ISDN PRI are certified by JITC.

VXVUE software, which includes VXWatch and VXBuilder, provides network operators with tools necessary to monitor voice network availability, report on IP network performance, and troubleshoot voice issues through a graphical user interface.
