Network Norway Selects Cisco to Expand Mobile Broadband Data Services and Capture New Market Opportunities

Cisco Platform and Subscriber Policy Management Help Mobile Operator Offer Increased Bandwidth and Deliver Customized Services to Its Enterprise Customers

OSLO, NORWAY--(Marketwire - February 12, 2009) - Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that it is working with Network Norway to deploy a mobile Internet platform, based on the Cisco® Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network architecture. The IP NGN platform will help Network Norway increase its capacity for mobile broadband services, monitor the performance of its network and offer customized data services, laptop data cards and flat-fee billing to its corporate customers.

"To expand in the enterprise market effectively, we need a platform that helps us effectively handle our mobile data services and has the capacity for growth," said Harald Bøyum, head of Value Added Services and Core Networks at Network Norway. "By working with Cisco, we have deployed an intelligent, high-performance platform that will help us respond quickly to customer demand for bandwidth-intensive applications and allow us to deliver services specifically tailored to customer needs."

Based on Cisco's enhanced Gateway General Packet Radio Service Support Node (eGGSN) technology, the new platform will help Network Norway increase the capacity and performance of its network to address the high adoption rates for mobile data services. The new solution will also help Network Norway have greater control over the management and performance of its network and essentially transform the Mobile Internet experience.

"The industry is seeing a change in behaviour: Both businesses and consumers are demanding mobile access to bandwidth-intensive applications and services," said Larry Lang, vice president and general manager of Cisco's services and mobility business unit. "Businesses are improving the productivity of their workforces with mobile services that help them collaborate on the move, and consumers are using the mobile Internet to plan their social lives and share experiences. The Internet is truly mobile, and Network Norway is deploying a scalable platform that will help it adapt to customer demands and have more control over revenue-generating services."

Network Norway's IP platforms have been developed in collaboration with Datametrix, a Norwegian Cisco Gold Certified Partner. Network Norway has deployed the Cisco eGGSN, which runs on Cisco's Service and Application Module for IP (SAMI) technology for Cisco 7600 Series Routers. The network also features Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series Firewall Service Modules, Cisco ACE Application Control Engine Modules, Cisco NAC Appliances, Cisco 7200 Series routers, the Cisco SCE 2000 Series Service Control Engine and the Cisco Content Services Gateway.

"Subscribers no longer feel restricted when accessing the Internet, and businesses are starting to reap the benefits of giving employees access to services and applications while on the move," commented Datametrix Chief Executive Officer Svein Lerkerød. "Network Norway's new platform will help it differentiate from the competition, have more control over the delivery of services and provide transparent and logical billing for its customers."
