NetXen and LeftHand Boost Storage Network Performance With 10-Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI SAN Solutions

LeftHand to Demonstrate 10GbE-Based iSCSI SAN Capabilities Using NetXen Intelligent NICs at Storage Networking World

SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 12, 2007 -- NetXen, Inc., a leading provider of breakthrough 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) technology and products, and LeftHand Networks, Inc., the leader in open iSCSI storage area networks (SANs), today announced that the two companies are jointly demonstrating 10GbE technology in next-generation iSCSI SANs in LeftHand's booth, No. C17, at the Storage Networking World Conference (San Diego, April 16-19, 2007). The enterprise-class storage solution on display combines LeftHand's SAN/iQ platform, HP ProLiant DL320s servers and NetXen's 10-Gigabit Intelligent NICs™.

"10GbE further validates iSCSI as an enterprise solution," said John Fanelli, vice president of marketing at LeftHand Networks. "NetXen's 10GbE NICs provide 10 times more bandwidth over 1GbE links and more than 2.5 times the bandwidth of 4Gb Fibre Channel solutions, eliminating I/O bottlenecks, improving performance and simplifying data center infrastructure management."

"LeftHand is shifting the market with its high-performance, open platform approach to iSCSI SANs," said David Pulling, president of NetXen. "We are pleased to be teaming with them to accelerate the adoption of iSCSI and 10GbE in the enterprise datacenter. The availability of 10GbE-based iSCSI solutions on a variety of popular hardware platforms will enable data center managers to configure the solution that best suits their needs, and will allow high-performance storage to reside on a common 10GbE communications fabric, simplifying configuration and reducing support and management costs."

LeftHand's SAN/iQ, the software platform behind the company's open iSCSI SAN approach, supports both HP ProLiant DL320s servers and IBM System x3650 servers. Both of these types of servers use NetXen Intelligent NIC controllers to provide multiple 10-gigabit connectivity. NetXen NICs are field upgradeable and support a wide variety of protocols, including TCP/IP, RDMA, iSCSI and security.
