Nevada Commission on Tourism Launches Mobile Ski Web Site as Part of Innovative Marketing Campaign

CARSON CITY, NV--(Marketwire - October 15, 2008) - Skiers on their way to Lake Tahoe this winter are now able to access information on road conditions, ski conditions, hotel packages and ski resort information from their mobile phones at a new Web site by the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced today.

The commission has pulled together instant information feeds from various sources and created a mobile site,, so visitors can access everything they need to know to visit Lake Tahoe this winter season. Road conditions are instantly updated through the Nevada Department of Transportation and ski conditions are provided by the ski resorts. All ski-and-stay packages are listed on the site, which is accessible via any Internet-equipped phone.

"Nevada has always been about getting the most value for your dollar and your time," Krolicki, commission chair, said. "Our hotels provide packages so you can get your hotel room and lift ticket at discounted prices. Shuttles provide efficient ways to get from the airport to the hotels and ski resorts so you don't have to spend time driving and parking. And all the information skiers need to visit our beautiful Lake Tahoe resorts is at their fingertips using new mobile technology."

Mobile sites are trimmed-down versions of "regular" Web sites that can be easily accessed and viewed on a mobile phone. The mobile site is part of an innovative new marketing campaign to tout the region's unmatched ski resorts. The Nevada Commission on Tourism worked closely with the Sierra Ski Marketing Council and area resorts to complement the entire region's objectives for this ski season. For the first time, the Nevada Commission on Tourism has contracted with radio talk show hosts in two important ski markets to talk about winter in northern Nevada. The radio play will coincide with television commercials running in those two markets as well.

"Research shows that two essential markets to northern Nevada are Dallas, Texas, and Los Angeles," Krolicki said. "Skiers in those markets have several ski destinations to choose from, but we believe that after they hear about the unparalleled ski resorts in Nevada and the ease of reaching them, they will find that we are the best choice to stretch their vacation time and budget."

With nearly two dozen ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area, it can be a daunting task to search for information on lift tickets, ski conditions, hotel availability and general information at each resort. The mobile site pulls "feeds" from each resort into one place that can be accessed from a mobile phone. Further, travelers who are already en route to their destination and unsure of upcoming weather or road conditions can check the latest reports to better plan their trip. The mobile site features "click to call" phone numbers that connect directly with hotels and ski resorts so travelers do not have to trouble themselves with writing or remembering phone numbers.
