Nevada Ranked Most Entrepreneur-Friendly State in the West

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - December 21, 2009) - Nevada was recently named as the state with the most favorable business climate in the Western U.S. by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council). The SBE Council released its 14th annual rankings of the states in the "Small Business Survival Index 2009: Ranking the Policy Environment for Entrepreneurship Across the Nation." Nevada was also found to have the most business friendly environment in the U.S., second only to South Dakota.

The "Small Business Survival Index" helps business owners and investors understand public policy burdens placed on entrepreneurship and small business and ranks each state accordingly. The factors included in the index and ranked individually for all states are taxes, various regulatory costs, government spending, property rights, healthcare and energy costs.

Contributing to Nevada's business-friendly ranking are the state's no corporate or personal income tax policies and low workers' compensation fees. Coming in at first place, Nevada was ranked as the state with the least full-time state and local government employees per 100 residents. Nevada was also among the top 20 states for the lowest amount of state and local property taxes, local government expenditures and local government five-year spending trends.

The Nevada Development Authority (NDA), a non-profit organization with a mission of diversifying Southern Nevada, has been proclaiming the benefits of doing business in the region since 1956.

"This index proves what entrepreneurs and business owners in Southern Nevada have known for years -- that overall Las Vegas has the best business climate in the U.S.," said Somer Hollingsworth, president of NDA. Further substantiating the city's economic strength, Las Vegas was also ranked as the market best positioned to weather the current economic downturn by a Biz Journals report.
