New Addition to Glidewell Distributing's Warehouse Will Benefit Customers and Create Jobs

FORT SMITH, AR--(Marketwire - Apr 10, 2012) - Glidewell Distributing of Fort Smith is set to complete construction on a 20,000-cubit-foot walk-in freezer that cost the company about $250,000. Sales and IT director Nick Glidewell said the freezer is one of several expansion phases designed to benefit many of the regional distributor's 1,000-plus convenience store and other retail customers.

"We realized we couldn't keep operating at the level we want with the amount of freezer space we had," Glidewell said Monday. "With our membership with [grocery wholesaler] AWG and our new Blue Bunny Ice Cream program, we had to make this investment. It will be good for our customers."

The company began planning for the new freezer in November. Glidewell said the unit will be up and running shortly, following the arrival Monday of the pre-fabricated walls at the company's headquarters in Fort Smith.

Construction that includes a special three-layer concrete and Styrofoam foundation and extensive electrical work has been going on for two months. Nicely Electric and Daniel Brothers Construction were among the local contractors Glidewell hired.

"We've been in the distribution business long enough to know that every decision we make has to in one way or the other help our customers," said Glidewell. "This freezer will allow us to stock huge amounts of frozen foods from AWG and ice cream for the ice cream program, so our customers will get their orders that much faster."

Glidewell said the freezer, designed by Fortier, Inc. of Conway, Ark., replaces several much smaller freezers that the company will convert into basic refrigeration units. This will be advantageous as Glidewell continues to expand its food-service programs.

Attached to the 50,000-square-foot warehouse, one of five on company property, the freezer will also benefit the local community with the creation of jobs to manage the increased stock and to oversee the shipment of product.

"We have at least three other expansion projects still in the planning stages that we want to initiate in 2012," Glidewell said. "Although the economy is still in the early stages of recovery, this industry is too busy and competitive for an organization like ours to just lay back. We have to continually improve in order to allow our customers to improve."
