The new Aquatic Complex on Ile Sainte-Helene Will Welcome its First Swimmers on September 3rd and 4th: The Mayor of Montreal Gives FINA 2005 World Championships Installations Back to Montrealers

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 1, 2005) - The Mayor of Montreal Gerald Tremblay is pleased to announce that the brand new aquatic complex on Ile Sainte-Helene is ready to welcome members of the public. Mayor Tremblay is inviting citizens to visit these exceptional installations at an open house this weekend on Saturday and Sunday September 3rd and 4th.

"It is with great pleasure that I am giving back to Montrealers the aquatic complex on Ile Sainte-Helene, one of the most prestigious facilities in North America. These installations will make it possible to maximize the developement of elite athletes for several decades. At the same time Montrealers of all ages will be able to enjoy them", said Mayor Tremblay.

The aquatic installations and equipment meet all current international standards. They will be used to train athletes and stage major competitions in various sports. Elite athletes will be able to train in world class installations. The community and members of the sporting elite will be able to share the facilities since only two of the three pools will be used for training purposes at any given time.

The new installations on Ile Sainte-Helene will be administered by the Societe du parc des iles, a paramunicipal organisation that is also responsible for the management of Parc Jean-Drapeau. Its mission is to manage Ile Sainte-Helene and Ile Notre-Dame and to offer citizens educational, cultural, social, sports, leisure activities.

The new installations will reopen on May 13th 2006 on weekends only. From June 16th to August 20th the aquatic complex will be open everyday and from August 26 until September on weekends only.
