New Big Red Campaign Proclaims It "Tastes Good To Be Different"

Integrated Marketing Launch Includes TV Ads for the First Time in More Than 25 Years

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Jun 28, 2011) - Big Red, America's original and #1 selling red soda brand, announced the launch of its new marketing campaign today. Celebrating the uniqueness of its flavor and the individuality of its avid fans, the brand's new campaign reminds consumers that it "Tastes Good To Be Different."

"The Big Red brand has been doing its own thing for almost 75 years," said Thomas Oh, VP of Business Development. "Our new message is a perfect fit for the original and indescribable flavor of Big Red. We embrace the fact that Big Red is unlike any other soda. We like being different and we salute those who love us and like being different."

The campaign features two new television commercials -- the first TV ads produced for the brand in more than 25 years. Big Red partnered with GeniusRocket, an advertising firm using a unique crowdsourcing video production model. For a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising agencies, GeniusRocket provided more than 30 concepts and full production of the two selected advertisements.

One ad, released today on Big Red's Facebook page, features a Robin Hood-like character who uses Big Red to start street parties. The second ad, shot at the landmark Hollywood club Whisky A Go-Go, follows a high school music student who becomes a rock star deriving inspiration from Big Red. The second spot will be released online next week.

Beginning next month, both television ads will air on local cable networks throughout the summer in seven key markets -- Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Houston, Indianapolis and Tampa. In addition, other awareness and trial driving initiatives such as new packaging graphics, billboards, guerrilla sampling, and in-store materials will support the campaign.
