New Commandant for Royal Military College Saint-Jean

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 5, 2013) - Colonel Jennie Carignan assumed command of the Royal Military College Saint-Jean this morning at a formal ceremony held at the College.

The ceremony was presided over by Major-General Pierre Forgues, Commander of the Canadian Defence Academy.

Colonel Carignan is succeeding Colonel Guy Maillet. He was at the helm of Royal Military College Saint-Jean since 2010, and will soon assume his duties in Paris, France, as Defence Attaché. As part of the ceremony, a Chief Warrant Officer transfer of appointment took place between Chief Petty Officer 1st class Pierre Langlois and Chief Warrant Officer France Dupuis. Chief Petty Officer 1st class Langlois is appointed as the National Defence Headquarters Chief Warrant Officer at Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa).

A distinguished officer in the Engineering Branch and a graduate of the Canadian Military Colleges, Colonel Carignan has held prestigious positions such as Deputy Commanding Officer and Commanding Officer of 5 Combat Engineer Regiment, Deputy Commander of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, Commanding Officer of Task Force Kandahar Engineer Regiment in Afghanistan and Chief of Staff of Land Force Central Area/Joint Task Force Central in Toronto. She was deployed to the Golan Heights, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Afghanistan. She received the Major-General Hans Schlup Award for excellence in international relations, and was ranked amongst Canada's 2011 Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network. Colonel Carignan is a recipient of the 2013 Hermès Award that recognizes the achievements of Laval University graduates who have had a significant impact in the administration field either through their exceptional career or their social or academic contribution.

Royal Military College Saint-Jean instils truth, duty and valour in officer cadets while providing college-level and first-year university programmes in science and social science. Each programme is offered in the candidate's first official language.
