New Condos Pushed Hamilton Starts Up

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2011) - Preliminary data released today by CMHC show total starts rose in the Hamilton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) in October, as compared to the same month last year. The increase was led by more starts in Burlington, including a new condominium apartment building and 40 new single-detached homes. In the City of Hamilton, total new home starts consisted almost entirely of single-detached homes and condominium townhouses. In Grimsby, just three single-detached homes were started.

"Starts in October reflected more higher density starts," said Sarah Fong, CMHC's Senior Market Analyst for Hamilton. "A new condo started in Burlington last month is the latest addition to the growing higher density home market there," added Fong.
