New Cross-Platform Network batteryPOP Allows Kids to Watch Youth Content in a Safe Environment

Forged by Nickelodeon Vets, New Online Kids' Network Allows Youth to Interact, Make Their Favorite Programming "Pop"

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Dec 9, 2013) - Nickelodeon content veterans Greg Alkalay and Taso Mastorakis have joined forces to launch batteryPOP, a new cross-platform network for kids aged 6-11 and family audiences. Streaming on computer, tablet and smartphone screens, the parent-friendly entertainment hub features a wide variety of unique, premium content ranging from cartoons and live action shows to exclusive interviews and events covering top trending celebrities and topics for kids.

All content hosted by batteryPOP is free and is pre-screened to be kid-safe.

Kids Make Shows 'POP'

batteryPOP's intuitive design encourages a high degree of interactivity, allowing kids to play a hand in what type of content is featured by making their favorite shows 'pop.' Voting for their favorite shows and sharing them with friends provides user-generated feedback, which BatteryPOP programmers use to tailor content to audience preferences. Key personalities and shows featured on the site include exclusive video premieres by X-Factor's Al Calderon and series such as "Totally Random," "Cody the Dinosaur," "Recess Stories," "Huevo Kids" and "Pencilmation."

The platform also hosts an array of original programming, including the snack-infused kid sound-off series "Chew On That," the street team series "What's Poppin" that interviews kids on what's trending in music, movies, TV and books. Exclusive interviews by batteryPOP's Tyler Carey, including a Q&A with X-Factor runner-up Carly Rose Sonenclar, will launch regularly on the site.

Taking the Danger out of Online Video

On popular online video platforms, children can stumble onto inappropriate user comments and interactions as well as easily click through to 'suggested' videos, which may not be kid-safe. With the online video landscape exposing children to an increasing amount of inappropriate content and comments, batteryPOP is designed to offer parents an environment where not only the media is child-safe, but also the platform itself.

Notes Alkalay, "While at Nickelodeon, we saw the flow of kids away from traditional TV to digital platforms, but we couldn't find a safe, entertaining online destination for them to visit. From this problem sprung the idea for batteryPOP." Adds Mastorakis, "batteryPOP is an online entertainment destination everyone in the family can feel good about."
