New England Patriots Adalius Thomas, BELL and Hannaford Supermarkets Present a Thanksgiving Turkey Donation Event

Mattapan Community Receives Thanksgiving Turkeys From the All-Pro Linebacker

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 19, 2007) - Adalius Thomas, All-Pro linebacker from the New England Patriots, helped begin the holiday season by giving thanks and sharing with the local community. Thomas donated 350 Thanksgiving turkeys to families of students attending the Mattahunt School in Mattapan. While Thomas is having a significant impact on the playing field this year with the 10-0 New England Patriots, he is making an equally strong impact in the local community, with this being his third charitable event to benefit students in Boston, since arriving in Boston earlier this year. The donation of food was made possible by the Adalius Thomas Foundation, and presented in partnership with BELL and Hannaford Supermarkets.

"Thanksgiving is a time not only to be thankful for what you have, but to also share those blessings with others," said Thomas. "I'm very pleased to be working with BELL and Hannaford, who share my commitment to making a difference in the lives of children."

BELL -- which coincidentally celebrated its 15-year anniversary today -- serves more than 10,000 children nationally, including 140 students at the Mattahunt School. Founded in 1992 by a group of Black and Latino Harvard Law School students, BELL provides its K-6 students, who BELL calls "scholars," a robust tutoring curriculum in reading, writing and math, as well as enrichment activities to help scholars develop high self-esteem. As a Supplemental Educational Services (SES) provider, BELL provides afterschool tutoring to eligible students under Federal No Child Left Behind legislation. Through private funding, BELL's afterschool programs offer more extensive, more robust and more effective tutoring and enrichment services than any other provider. In addition, BELL provides a summer program that helps scholars continue to progress academically and personally, rather than backslide in their educational progress as many students do in the summer months.

"Adalius has been such a tremendous partner to BELL and a great advocate for supporting the needs of children," said BELL Co-founder and CEO Earl Martin Phalen. "We're thankful for his partnership and his willingness to make a difference in the community."
