New Era of Litigation Begins in Ontario With Launch of Courtside EDX Electronic Document Exchange

TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - January 20, 2015) - CourtSide EDX™, a leader in the exchange, verification, and management of court documents, today announced the launch of the first electronic document exchange solution designed specifically to comply with Ontario's new law regarding the service of court documents. The adoption of the law was the result of an original proposal submitted by CourtSide EDX co-founders and Ontario lawyers, Michael Tweyman and Arin Klug.

Court documents in Ontario have traditionally been served using paper-based methods such as mail, fax and courier. CourtSide EDX is a web-based software as a service (SaaS) platform that allows lawyers and litigants in Ontario to serve court documents electronically.

"The passage of the rule permitting service by electronic document exchange was a significant development for Ontario's Rules of Civil Procedure," said Michael Tweyman, CEO of CourtSide EDX. "With today's launch of CourtSide EDX, the benefits to the litigation process facilitated by the rule have become reality."

In addition to making document service quicker, more cost-effective, and more reliable, CourtSide EDX provides its members with cloud-based management of all documents that are served and received through the CourtSide EDX system. Service effected through one of the traditional methods of service is proved by the swearing of an affidavit of service. CourtSide EDX eliminates this requirement by automatically producing a record of service that can be used to prove service under Ontario's electronic document exchange rule. The record of service generated by CourtSide EDX provides independent verification of the delivery and content of the documents that were served, virtually eliminating costly disputes over service.

"There is no greater barrier to access to justice than the costs involved in the litigation process," stated Tweyman. "By streamlining a critical element of that process, CourtSide EDX will reduce the costs associated with document service and benefit Ontario's lawyers and their clients immensely."
