New Evan-Moor Activity Books Reverse Summer Slide

Seven New Titles in Award-Winning 'Never Bored Kid Book' Series Provide Fun Ways for Children to Practice Vital Learning Skills

Monterey, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 23, 2006 -- Professional athletes don't slack off in summer -- and neither should young learners. The brain -- like the muscles -- craves regular exercise. Studies show that children who don't read during the summer may experience a 6-to-12-month drop-off in reading scores.

The best offense against summer slide -- or summer learning loss -- is a good offense. Evan-Moor Educational Publishers has scored a touchdown by adding seven new titles to its award-winning 'Never Bored Kid Book' series.

Kid friendly and age appropriate, each book in the expanded series contains full-color, educationally sound activities, including puzzles, 3-D constructions, riddles, cut-and-paste, coloring, and word games. Children can work independently or with their families on the engaging activities, which require supplies commonly found at home, such as scissors, glue, tape, pencils, and crayons.

Child's play becomes a learning opportunity, as children use the activities to practice visual discrimination, following directions, critical thinking, creative thinking, sequencing, reading, math, and small motor skills.

"This series was originally developed at the request of parents whose children were using our materials in their classrooms," said Bill Evans, Evan-Moor president and CEO. "Many parents feel it's hard to keep young children engaged without video games or television, but children still really love the prospect of making something and coming away with a finished product."

Never Bored won a 2003 Great Holiday Product Award from iParenting Media and a 2004 National Parenting Center seal of approval. The new titles include "The Never-Bored Kid Book, Ages 5-6," and "Ages 7-8." Each book is organized around age-appropriate themes, such as wild animals and happy birthday (5-6), and outer space and rainforest animals (7-8).

The new Never-Bored Kid Book 2 collection consists of four titles that focus on skills practice for math and language arts that are aligned to curriculum standards. These include counting, letter recognition, and word recognition (Ages 4-5), addition and subtraction, and writing (5-6), word families and spelling (6-7), addition and subtraction facts and phonics (7-8), and reading comprehension, and multiplication and division facts (8-9).

Each book has 160 pages and retails for $14.99 at major booksellers, specialty stores, and online. For more information, visit or call 1-800-777-4362.
