New Features in ScriptLogic Corporation's Desktop Authority® 7.5 Provide Complete Management of the Windows Desktop Lifecycle

Desktop Management Solution Now Includes USB and Port Security, Software Management, and Teams Up With Forthcoming Desktop Authority Image Center Solution to Manage All Aspects of the Windows Desktop Lifecycle

BOCA RATON, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 18, 2006 --ScriptLogic® Corporation (www.scriptlogic.com), a leader in network administration software for Microsoft® Windows®-based networks, today announced the availability of Desktop Authority® 7.5, with features that give customers greater control over data security, desktop configuration and software management. These enhancements extend Desktop Authority's industry-leading feature set into one which, combined with ScriptLogic's forthcoming Desktop Authority Image Center solution, offers complete management of the Windows desktop lifecycle.

Version 7.5 introduces USB and Port Security, a feature which locks down a desktop or notebook computer and prevents data theft using removable storage devices such as USB sticks, MP3 players or even recordable CD/DVDs. In addition, Desktop Authority can now automatically update and modify desktop configurations at regular "Refresh" intervals, giving enterprises more flexibility in desktop management and allowing them to continually enforce compliance and security standards.

Another major enhancement in version 7.5 is an upgrade to Desktop Authority's software deployment and management capabilities, now offering "point, click, done" deployment, updates and removal of software applications from enterprise desktops. The management console is now integrated with ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority MSI Studio, which allows the administrator to create, edit and customize Microsoft installer (MSI) packages for pain-free software deployments. The product's software deployment features capitalize on ScriptLogic's Validation Logic™, a granular process by which Desktop Authority manages specific end-user desktop settings and software inventory based on the user's role, workstation location and a host of other characteristics.

"ScriptLogic is the only desktop management vendor to offer solutions that deploy the whole desktop and manage the entire desktop lifecycle," said Andrew Langsam, COO at ScriptLogic. "With the enhancements to our award-winning Desktop Authority product family, we can manage a PC's life from the moment it arrives at an organization until it is deemed ready for replacement. Enterprises looking to reduce the cost of desktop ownership and achieve desktop security and compliance objectives can now get everything they need from a single vendor -- ScriptLogic."

Desktop Authority Product Family Now Includes Imaging and Packaging

Since its inception, IT pros have used ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority to manage PC desktops from immediately after initial deployment until they are decommissioned. ScriptLogic expanded its coverage of the lifecycle from that foundation with the introduction of ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority Image Center, which accommodates initial set-up, imaging and deployment of a desktop at the very beginning of its working life. This forthcoming addition to the Desktop Authority product family gives total desktop lifecycle coverage.

"Buyers of PC configuration management tools want products that address as much of the PC life cycle as possible. Especially with new versions of Windows and other products on the horizon, organizations are looking for solutions that integrate desktop imaging with software deployment, patch management and software configuration," said Michael A. Silver, research vice president at Gartner.

Adding Device Lockdown and Additional Software Management Features

ScriptLogic customers are increasingly investigating desktop management solutions that improve overall desktop security. With the USB and Port Security functionality in Desktop Authority 7.5, IT administrators receive centralized granular control of read and write access for all removable storage and communication "devices" on the desktop, including USB sticks, PCMCIA devices, CD-RW/DVD, MP3 players, PDAs, Smart Phones, modems, FireWire and Bluetooth devices, etc.

Evidence of damage resulting from enterprise information leakage on attached storage is widespread. According to a May 2, 2006 story in InformationWeek, "a U.K. government-backed security survey in late April indicates that more than half of companies take no steps to secure data held on devices such as iPods or USB memory sticks."

"Desktop Authority 7.5 is an impressive solution, and even more versatile than the last version," said Jim Clements, IT special projects at the City of Raleigh. "We use Desktop Authority for patch management, remote access, drive mapping and software updates. But what is most impressive is that it does exactly what it says it does, addressing the entire PC lifecycle throughout installation, implementation and day-to-day functionality. The solution truly allows the help desk to solve a multitude of problems across our many offices."

ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority also includes enhanced Software Management features, which give centralized control and scalable distribution of desktop software with a "point, click, done" interface. These enhancements also integrate with the company's Desktop Authority MSI Studio product, which enables the creation and modification of MSI packages, which are executed to install software on end-user machines. These enhancements reduce the cost of application ownership, and provide easier application roll-outs and updates.

Other Enhancements for Comprehensive Desktop Management

Desktop Authority 7.5 includes more than 50 other customer-requested enhancements. For example, the product can now configure desktops at times other than the standard logon and logoff events. IT pros can configure Desktop Authority to refresh each desktop every 60 minutes, or at different time intervals. This allows users' desktops to be continually configured and updated throughout the day, and is also a crucial enhancement for enterprises with mobile users who connect to a network used cached credentials. In addition, Desktop Authority's centralized management of Outlook settings is enhanced with features including central management of e-mail signatures according to corporate standards, and the ability to configure "Cached Exchange mode" for mobile users.

With these enhancements, IT personnel at companies of all sizes will continue to use Desktop Authority, to secure Windows networks and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) with functionality to proactively configure, manage, support and inventory desktops from a central location.
