New Four-season Cottage Complex at the Foot of Chic-Chocs Mountains Made Possible by Financial Support From Government of Canada

CAP-CHAT, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that Habitations Y.L. received $100,000 in repayable financial assistance for the creation of six new high-end cottages in Cap-Chat.

"The Government of Canada's support of this Habitations Y.L. project will help strengthen the drawing power of the Chic-Chocs and increase the availability of tourist lodging in Haute-Gaspésie," said Minister Lebel.

This new year-round complex, which necessitated an overall investment of $441,600, was financed by a number of partners. The funding from Canada Economic Development served for the acquisition of the six pre-fabricated cottages as well as for their installation in a strategic tourist location at the base of the Chic-Chocs mountains, in close proximity to Gaspésie National Park. The site will be managed by Valmont plein-air, a firm affiliated with Habitations Y.L that specializes in the organization of hiking excursions and other activities in the Chic-Chocs. This collaboration between the two complementary enterprises is expected to enhance the supply of tourism packages in the area, resulting in a sustained increase in the number of visitors to the region.

This financial assistance from the Government of Canada has been granted through the Community Diversification program, which funds projects that, among other things, help strengthen the tourism offering in Quebec's regions. Tourism is the second largest industry in Gaspésie—Îles-de-la-Madeleine and its development is a key priority for Canada Economic Development in the region.
