New Generation CT Scanner Saves Lives at Long Island Heart Associates

Long Island Heart Associates Proves Results With Its New Generation CT Scanner, Diagnosing Heart Conditions and Evaluating Heart Attack Risks

MINEOLA, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 8, 2015) - Long Island cardiology practice Long Island Heart Associates (LI Heart) takes pride in its revolutionary CT scanner, LightSpeed VCT, which accurately diagnoses heart conditions, and even occasionally finds unanticipated disorders.

LI Heart is solely dedicated to heart care. The NY cardiology practice's CT scanner is a relatively new technology that has not yet been adopted by most practices due to its significant costs and maintenance. The CT machine performs readings very quickly with 40 percent less radiation than typical CT scanners.

A CT scan, also referred to as a CAT scan, combines a series of images taken from various angles and creates cross-sectional images of the inside of the body. In cardiology, CT scans are used to detect heart disease and artery blockage.

LI Heart is dedicated to acquiring the latest, most advanced methods of disease detection. LI Heart's new generation CT scanner minimizes the amount of radiation to the patient, posing virtually no risk. The benefits of the information attained through the CT scan significantly outweigh the potential risks.

LI Heart is known to find conditions beyond the heart. Incidental findings are in the range of one to two percent. Although they are mostly of benign nature, LI Heart has found several lung cancers before they would have been detected by other screenings or showed symptoms to the patient. LI Heart cardiologists have also detected aortic aneurysms which could have been fatal if remained undetected.

Almost all patients are eligible for an LI Heart CT scan. No special preparation is required prior to the scan. Patients lay down on a table, and the test is completed within a few minutes. Within 24 hours, results can be reviewed with an LI Heart board-certified cardiologist. Or, the results are sent to a primary care physicians or referring cardiologist.

Long Island Heart Associates has six locations on Long Island, and serves Nassau, Queens, and the surrounding areas. The practice staffs board-certified cardiologists in cardiovascular diseases, echo-cardiology, nuclear cardiology, interventional cardiology, and electrophysiology, and have been recognized as distinguished Fellows of the American College of Cardiology.
