New Hampshire Plastic Surgeon Discusses Breast Augmentation and the Goal of "Natural-Looking" Results

Dr. Richard Zeff Uses His 25 Years of Surgical Experience to Give His Breast Augmentation Patients a Natural Look While Minimizing Postoperative Discomfort

STRATHAM, NH--(Marketwired - Jan 29, 2014) - Over the past ten years, as more studies have shown breast implants to be safe and breast augmentation has become increasingly accepted as part of our culture, Dr. Richard L. Zeff has seen his New Hampshire plastic surgery patients become more interested and comfortable with the procedure. "As my practice has grown over the last 25 years, I have seen the number of breast augmentation patients steadily increase to a current average of over a hundred per year. The majority of new patients are referrals from friends or acquaintances who were happy with their experience. There is also an increased comfort level with the safety of the procedure and the implants themselves."

Dr. Zeff says, as breast augmentation procedures have evolved over the years, he has modified his technique and postoperative care in order for patients to achieve the best possible results with the least discomfort. For instance: during the pre-surgery consultation process, Dr. Zeff uses Mentor's "Volume Sizing System" so that his patients can experience a variety of implant sizes. Dr. Zeff says this system allows patients to get an estimate of the breast cup with a range of sizes, and ultimately have more realistic surgical expectations for results.

In regard to the choice between saline and silicone breast implants, Dr. Zeff highlights a recent trend toward silicone gel-based implants. "While more expensive [than saline breast implants], gel implants feel more natural and are less likely to show rippling, especially in thinner patients." The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of silicone breast implants for breast augmentation procedures in patients aged 22 and above, and for breast reconstruction procedures in patients of any age. Saline breast implants are approved for breast augmentation procedures in patients who are 18 and over.

Regardless of implant choice, Dr. Zeff, a board-certified plastic surgeon, says his focus is always on safety, in addition to techniques that can yield the most natural-looking results and a swift recovery. "Every measure is taken to avoid a result that is too hard looking or artificial," says Dr. Zeff. "This includes avoiding drugs that can cause complications as well as meticulous surgical methods." Plus, all of Dr. Zeff's breast augmentation patients receive a postoperative protocol that includes early exercises and massages to help them recover faster.

Dr. Zeff says, although it should not be assumed that implants will last a lifetime, the manufacturers have high standards of quality control. He says those standards, coupled with the skills of an experienced plastic surgeon, can lead many patients to experience very long-lasting results.
