New ISR Report Analyzes European Investigator Payments Across 18 Therapeutic Areas

Informing the Drug Development and Commercialization Industry

CARY NC--(Marketwired - Jan 10, 2014) - Industry Standard Research (ISR) today announced the availability of their latest report, "Benchmarking European Investigator Payments," which evaluates the per patient reimbursement levels European investigators receive for recruiting patients into clinical trials.

"This report provides pharmaceutical sponsors and service providers a valuable tool to benchmark their investigator payment levels in Europe," explained Andrew Schafer, President of ISR. "One of the interesting findings from this report is that there seem to be specialty areas in Europe where just a few sites are recruiting a large number of patients."

ISR's report compiles data from 142 respondents at investigational sites, all of whom are responsible for investigator payments. The report includes in-depth analyses of the payments across 18 therapeutic areas, four phases of clinical development, and five types of products (e.g. biologic, biosimilar, me-too, generic, and novel compounds). This report also analyzes factors that motivate sites' participation in clinical trials, study characteristics that drive lower/higher fees, and the most common and preferred payment models.

"With 71% of sites reporting they have coordinators responsible for negotiating payment levels, it is vitally important that sponsors and service providers understand the investigator payment environment as this impacts feasibility, trial budgeting, compliance, and patient and site recruitment," stated Schafer.

ISR's report includes analyses across the following 18 therapeutic areas: Analgesic/Pain Management, Cardiovascular, CNS, Dermatology, Gastrointestinal, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Metabolic Diseases, Musculoskeletal/Arthritis, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatric, Respiratory/Allergy/Pulmonology, Urology, Vaccines, and Women's Health. The 142 respondents are from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and a mix of Eastern European countries.
