New ITA Action Plan for LNG Trades Training to Prepare Skilled Workforce for B.C.'s Developing LNG Sector

Ensuring B.C. Has the Right Skills, in the Right Place, at the Right Time

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 12, 2014) - On September 15 join the Industry Training Authority (ITA) as they release An Action Plan for LNG Trades Training and provide details of actions that ITA has undertaken to date, as well as ITA's LNG priorities for the coming months and years.

The latest data from the B.C.'s Skills for Jobs Blueprint assumes a scenario of five LNG plants constructed in B.C. between 2015 - 2024 would create a total investment of $175 billion and create up to 100,000 jobs: 58,700 direct and indirect construction jobs, 23,800 permanent direct and indirect jobs for operations, and thousands more of induced jobs as a result of households having more income.

These numbers underscore the need for continuous investment in B.C.'s Skilled Trades Training and apprenticeship system. ITA and the Government of British Columbia are working hard to meet this demand, starting with the launch of An Action Plan for LNG Trades Training that will help prepare a skilled and qualified workforce for B.C.'s developing LNG sector, with a focus on the northern regions of the province.

The plan was reviewed during May to August, 2014 and validated by key stakeholders including industry, Aboriginal peoples, and relevant government ministries.
