RIDGEWOOD, NJ--(Marketwire - June 11, 2008) - The New Jersey Chapter of NACD today
announced details of its next event. Being held Wednesday, June 25, 2008
from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Highlawn Pavilion, East Rock Reservation,
West Orange, N.J., it will feature The Honorable Barbara Hackman Franklin,
one of the most accomplished business minds and corporate governance
experts in the U.S. Franklin's presentation will focus on the
business-critical topic of "Board and Shareholder Communication."
Currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Barbara Franklin
Enterprises, a private investment and consulting firm headquartered in
Washington, D.C., she is a respected advisor to American companies doing
business in global markets and a leading expert on corporate governance,
auditing and financial reporting practices. As the 29th U.S. Secretary of
Commerce in the administration of President George H.W. Bush, she achieved
a major goal -- increasing American exports -- with emphasis on market
opening initiatives in China, Russia, Japan and Mexico. She has been a
director of 14 public companies and is presently serving as a director of
two: Aetna Inc. and The Dow Chemical Company. She is a graduate of
Pennsylvania State University and was one of the first women graduates of
the Harvard Business School.
The topic of board and shareholder communication is being examined by this
year's NACD Blue Ribbon Commission. Among the questions being reviewed are
how such communications are handled by boards when shareholders request
meetings, and when and under what circumstances boards should request
meetings with shareholders. The Commission's report is expected to be
released this fall.
Mark Sickles, founding president and CEO of NACD's New Jersey chapter,
commented, "We're honored to end our current season with such a noteworthy
event and impressive speaker. Barbara has earned the respect of many of the
world's political and corporate leaders. Her presentation will give our
attendees the actionable information they need to analyze and advance their
own board and shareholder communication practices as well as the
opportunity to input to the Blue Ribbon Commission's report. It's a
not-to-be missed evening."
The fee for members is $50. The fee for non-members is $85. To register for
this event, please call (866)648-3369 or email Jim O'Leary at
