New Jersey Grants Available to Employers for BPI Training and Certification of Employees

MALTA, NEW YORK--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2010) - The State of New Jersey has announced the availability of State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) grants to employers to cover the costs of training and certifying new or existing employees for certifications from the Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI).

The $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor aims to foster the growth of New Jersey's workforce to meet the demands of the emerging energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Total funding available for the first six month program cycle from January to July 2011 is estimated to be $1 million. The SESP program is administered by the New Jersey State Employment and Training Commission (SETC), and will run through January 2013.

"This program will sharpen the skills New Jersey retrofit workers have in their tool boxes, allowing the state's employers to boost their competitive advantage," said BPI CEO Larry Zarker. "It will also foster new job creation by giving employers an incentive to hire new employees to serve the emerging home retrofit market."

The SETC requires the application to be submitted by employers, industry associations or labor/trade organizations within New Jersey's energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Employers must commit to hire and/or retain workers trained through SESP funds. Applications are due December 10th 2010.
