New Jersey Plastic Surgeon and ASPS Statistics Confirm Rising Demand in Cosmetic Surgery

VERONA, NJ--(Marketwire - Jul 24, 2012) - According to the latest statistics released from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), cosmetic surgical and non-invasive procedures are up 5 percent since 2010, with a combined total of 13.8 million plastic surgery procedures. With two back-to-back years of growing demand for plastic surgery, Dr. Paul LoVerme, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New Jersey, says he expects the popularity to continue rising as more developments in techniques and technology continue to emerge on the market and the plastic surgery approval rating amongst Americans reaches new heights. Dr. LoVerme says he has seen a similar swell in demand at his practice for cosmetic procedures, particularly breast augmentation in New Jersey, which was the most popular surgical enhancement this past year with over 307,000 procedures performed. Other procedures such as liposuction and facelifts also saw increases in popularity over the past year.

At his New Jersey plastic surgery practice, Dr. LoVerme says breast augmentation has become the most requested surgery he performs, an observation he accredits to both a competitive job market, a higher approval rating of cosmetic procedures, and the fact that he has perfected the rapid recovery breast augmentation procedure. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) shows in a recent study that over half of all Americans now approve of aesthetic surgery. Dr. LoVerme says the link between a more widespread acceptance and support of plastic surgery and its growing demand is undeniable. He also says more patients are seeking cosmetic procedures as a way to enhance their appearance and improve their confidence in themselves, rather than to achieve a "done-up" look as in the past: "Most people want little to no downtime, as they do not want to take time off work to recover in the current economic climate."

With the struggling job market, Dr. LoVerme says many patients at his practice are now looking to cosmetic procedures to help them gain an edge in their hunt for employment. While past trends in plastic surgery have gravitated towards higher profile augmentations and changes, he says he has noticed a shift in patient preference towards a more natural look through more subtle results. Dr. LoVerme says advancements in surgical technique and the continued pursuit of the safest and most effective devices such as breast implants have allowed surgeons to create the most natural-looking results yet. He says more patients are now turning to cosmetic procedures to help them look and feel younger with minimal side effects, shorter recovery times, and less noticeable scarring: "Ultimately, the growth in popularity and ongoing advancements in non-surgical enhancement procedures such as BOTOX® and dermal fillers has fueled the growth in the acceptance of cosmetic enhancement as a whole."

Whether patients are seeking a simple BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure or liposuction in New Jersey, Dr. LoVerme says consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is essential for achieving the proper results. He says patients who take the time to research their practice thoroughly can enjoy the benefits of a more vibrant and refreshed appearance. Dr. LoVerme adds that he is excited for the future of plastic surgery as it brings a wealth of progression in patient comfort and care.
