New KLAS Report Reveals Healthcare Providers Finding Value in Interactive Patient Systems Beyond Traditional Educational Uses

GetWellNetwork(R) Is the Highest-Scoring IPS in Study

BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - Dec 13, 2011) - A new KLAS report on Interactive Patient Systems (IPS) found that healthcare providers are mostly pleased with their IPS solutions and are discovering their value beyond the traditional uses of patient education. Many of the more than 170 providers KLAS interviewed for the report -- "Delivering More than Patient Education: Interactive Patient Systems 2011" -- said their IPS solutions fulfill many different roles, from entertainment to freeing up nurse time. As healthcare professionals are continually looking to improve the quality of their care, increase patient satisfaction, reduce costs, and remain competitive, healthcare providers are leveraging IPS functionalities that help them accomplish their goals.

"KLAS found out that providers are satisfied with their solutions and pleased with their service. Providers often know what they want from an IPS, and respondents recommend looking beyond basic functionality when selecting a solution," a Nov. 17 KLAS news release on the report stated. Specifically, some of the new areas of use include for improved patient satisfaction and HCAHPS scores, freeing up valuable nurse time, and enhanced entertainment.

The report examined IPS from five vendors. The GetWellNetwork® solution received the highest overall rating with many positive scores and reviews from the providers interviewed by KLAS. All users of the system that KLAS spoke with reported that their initial goals have been met. Among the differentiators of the system were its adaptable array of advanced features and high percentages of inbound/outbound interfacing.

"It's exciting to see more and more hospital leaders embracing patient engagement as a core strategy for performance improvement, and demanding more depth from the interactive patient systems on the market to drive outcomes," said Michael O'Neil, founder and CEO of GetWellNetwork. "The feedback from providers surveyed supports the fact that while IPS is clearly the standard in patient education systems, they also deliver patient care quality, satisfaction and operational improvements."

The KLAS report stated that providing patients "with an experience of convenience and opportunities for self-care allows a hospital to remain competitive and reap the benefits of higher HCAHPS scores, which are (currently) set to translate into higher reimbursement dollars from CMS."

The GetWellNetwork solution provides specific educational resources for patients, allowing them to learn more about everything from their condition, treatment plan and care team, to services available at the hospital and discharge instructions. Patients are also able to contact facility staff members directly about their room temperature and provide feedback on their care team. The enhanced communication features enable clinicians and team members to immediately respond to their patients' needs for an improved patient and family experience.
