New Laser Treatment for Gum Disease Available at Shawnee Dental Office

SHAWNEE, KS--(Marketwired - January 25, 2016) - A dentist in Shawnee recently implemented a new laser treatment that treats gum disease issues without invasive surgery, scalpels or sutures. Dental Innovations, operated by Dr. Mark Manroe, is one of the first practices in Johnson County to implement this latest breakthrough for patients suffering from gum disease, the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

"Gum disease is a serious problem and has been linked with life-threatening problems like heart disease and diabetes, so we are very dedicated to treating this issue with state-of-the-art technology," Dr. Manroe said. "The laser is much less invasive than traditional gum surgery methods and leads to quick recovery times."

Gum disease is one of the most common chronic infections in adults -- about 75 percent of Americans will be afflicted with the disease in their lifetime. The problem does not go away on its own and often comes with little or no warning.

Lasers have been shown in studies to improve the outcomes of gum disease treatment compared with traditional deep scaling alone. The laser kills more bacteria than just the action of removing the physical deposits alone. Dr. Manroe said the lasers also pave the way for natural reattachment between the gum and tooth structure and increase the overall success of gum disease treatment. Dental Innovations has four different lasers for gum disease treatment.

"Patients report no pain whatsoever with the use of lasers, so we normally don't have to use anesthesia," Dr. Manroe said. "Lasers represent the next generation in dentistry, and we're excited to provide this great tool for our patients and community members." Dental Innovations, 11221 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., is a 5,800-square-feet office with 10 operatories and several amenities for patients. The Johnson County dental office is a leading provider in general dentistry, restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, sedation dentistry and gum disease treatment.

Dr. Manroe graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1991 and is a member of the Great Plains Study Club. He worked as an associate dentist before buying his own practice. Dr. Manroe has completed countless hours in continuing education, focusing on areas of dentistry like teeth whitening, crowns and bridges, composite fillings, gum disease treatment, porcelain veneers, tooth extractions and even sleep apnea treatment.

Dr. Manroe and his associate, Dr. Trevor Clemons, provide mini dental implants to help patients with thin jawbones to stabilize dentures. Implants not only stabilize oral devices but also help preserve the patient's jawbone and provide optimal chewing force. Dr. Manroe also offers Lumineers porcelain veneers to fix gaps, chips or heavily stained teeth.

Dr. Clemons earned his undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Like Dr. Manroe, Dr. Clemons is trained in crafting dentures, root canals and full-mouth reconstructions.
