New Medline Oversight Rules Engine in Homecare Homebase™ Improves Customers Supply Utilization Management

"Behind the Scenes" Proactive Rule Sets Impact Supply Utilization at the Point of Order

MUNDELEIN, IL--(Marketwire - Jun 6, 2011) - Medline Industries, Inc. announced today that they have enhanced its Homecare Homebase™ supply interface with the addition of a new oversight rules engine to help customers better manage their supply utilization. Using PointCare and the Clinical Manger, joint Homecare Homebase and Medline customers are now able to set oversight rules in Medline that will enable them to better manage items requisitioned by their staff.

"A critical aspect of supply management encompasses not only a strong formulary but also a complex methodology of 'behind the scenes' proactive rule sets that can impact supply utilization at the point of order," said Mike Lee, President of Medline's HomeCare Division. "The new interaction with the Medline Oversight Rules Engine will allow Homecare Homebase customers a means to manage and control supply costs by enforcing formulary management and restricting cost per patient, per period of time."

With the 2008 changes to the Medicare Home Care Prospective Payment System, it is critical that clinicians complete an accurate clinical assessment and learn how to efficiently track and capture the amount and cost of supplies ordered. That has placed a greater emphasis on the use of supply management technology and clinical education -- and how these combine to improve clinical outcomes while reducing their overall cost.

Homecare Homebase, developed by home health and hospice professionals, is the most comprehensive, web-based software solution available, allowing users to decrease costs and streamline agency operations without compromising care. When a requisition created in Homecare Homebase trips a Medline oversight rule, clinical supervisors will be directed to Medline.com to approve, modify or cancel the requisition. Rules can be based on a variety of different criteria including thresholds for minimum and maximum cost, and clinical appropriateness of the product ordered.
