New MGIS Physician Dispensing Program Offers Improved Patient Satisfaction and Practice Profitability

Web-Based System Instantly Adjudicates Claims, Minimizes Staff Impact, Adds $25,000/Doc Net Annual Profit While Improving Overall Patient Experience

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - March 7, 2011) - MGIS, the leading nationwide provider of specialized insurance products for physician groups, today announced the introduction of the HealtheOffice Physician Dispensing Program. The program provides a turn-key web-based system that allows medical groups to quickly and profitably dispense prescribed medications in the office at the end of each patient visit. The online system instantly adjudicates claims, providing patients with an experience virtually identical to a pharmacy -- without the additional 30-40 minute wait and travel time. Higher levels of patient satisfaction and compliance combined with attractive practice profitability have fueled recent growth of this ancillary service.

"While the idea of dispensing is not new, the technology surrounding it has totally changed the game," said Jeff Brunken, president of The MGIS Companies. "Instant, online claims adjudication and automated inventory control have resolved the drawbacks of earlier solutions, making dispensing attractive for both the patient and the practice."

Physician dispensing provides high levels of patient convenience and satisfaction, and addresses the fact that an estimated one-third of patients never fill their prescriptions. "With prescriptions in hand at the end of a visit, patients are more likely to comply with the physician's orders and regimens," Brunken said.

The solution's efficiency minimizes impact on already stressed staff resources in most medical groups. "Staff impact is basically time-neutral," Brunken said. "The two minutes it takes to dispense each patient is more than compensated by a dramatic reduction in pharmacy-related faxes and phone calls." Claims are entered, adjudicated and settled in seconds electronically -- completely eliminating cumbersome paper-based manual processes.

The MGIS system, provided in partnership with MedX Sales, Inc., maximizes the options for reimbursement, including cash and carry, private pay(1), Medicare and Medicaid(2), Worker's Compensation and PIP insurance programs. As a result, groups using the program report an average increase in annual net profits of $25,000 - $30,000 per provider.

The MGIS Physician Dispensing Program is the newest offering of the recently introduced MGIS HealtheOffice, a family of non-insurance products and services that improve the operating and business side of running a medical practice.

Details regarding the program are available through the company's extensive network of insurance brokers, or by contacting MGIS directly.
