New Mobclix Index on AT&T Versus Verizon iPhone Usage

Stats Find That AT&T Still Dominates the Overall iPhone Market

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - March 23, 2011) -

  • Mobclix (, the only real-time bidding mobile ad exchange, recently took a dive into the current state of the iPhone landscape by pulling key data points around the iPhone's usage and surveying Verizon iPhone owners across its exchange in the U.S. in February 2011.
  • Some of the key findings were as follows:
    • AT&T iPhone customers use Wi-Fi an average of 53 percent of the time versus 38 percent for Verizon iPhone owners.
    • Two in three AT&T customers who switched to Verizon iPhone paid the termination fee.
    • The top three reasons for AT&T customers making a switch to Verizon are: reception issues, personal hot spot and reputation.
    • 14 percent of iPhone 4 users are on the Verizon network, and they account for 4 percent of total iPhone users.
  • The Apple iPhone finally made its way to the Verizon network last month, so this survey aimed to determine whether Verizon has made any traction against competitor, AT&T.
  • Recently, a RootMetrics study found that Verizon's 4G network was the fastest and most consistent amongst all major U.S. carriers.

"We're seeing a lot of movement in the carrier space right now -- this week alone, we saw big news from AT&T around its intent to acquire T-Mobile," said Krishna Subramanian, Mobclix Co-founder. "Based on our survey findings today, it's clear that consumers are taking control of their mobile destinies by evaluating carrier criteria such as Wi-Fi usage, reception issues and reputation as part of their decision to remain with their carrier or make a switch."
